This one didn’t prove quite so challenging as the previous contest. The answer is Whistler, B.C. in Canada. Moreover, the area is question will be hosting the alpine skiing and bobsledding competitions at the upcoming Winter Olympics.

Contest #60 will be the last of the set which were submitted by ACG. We’ll have someone new start with contest #61.

Man, its been a bloodbath lately. ACG’s choices have been hard. For this one, you had to go far north to the Northwest Territory in Canada to Tuktoyaktuk. Those who got it right recognized it as an arctic area, and from there it was a matter of finding the right spot in the Arctic. The image used showed the airport and the settlement of Tuktoyaktuk.

Only four people managed to go north this time.

This is just a reminder to everyone to help spread the news about Where on Google Earth. If you know friends who’d like to play, or frequent any forums where you think there might be interested people, let them know.

Also, I’m personally looking for help on my own Google Earth layer. In particular, I’m trying to figure out how I can easily format pins I’m using on my map. Most of the layers I have use nice looking layouts, and I haven’t figured out how to make a similar layout appear for each pin.

In addition, I think it would be cool to have a Where On Google Earth layer for Google Earth (only appropriate, isn’t it?) It would just be all the contest locations with one or two new pins added every week. If anyone would be interested in putting it together, I’ll gladly host it and put up a link.

This one was also pretty difficult. AGC has been throwing a lot of curve balls. The answer is Yangshan Island, just outside of Shanghai, China. The port of Yangshan is the largest container port in the world. Also visible is the Donghai Bridge, one of the longest bridges in the world, spanning 32.5km.

Some people found this one easy, some people found this one hard. I think they key was knowing what it was you were looking at. If you knew it was an airport, then you could probably just search for “airport” and “dome”. It is Hangar 7 at the Salzburg Airport. It is a private hangar owned by the founder of the energy drink company “Red Bull”, Dietrich Mateschitz. It is one of the top tourist attractions in Salzburg.

The great part about letting contestants who win pick the contests, is that I can always distance myself from things when they get hard and come away looking good. This last contest was probably one of the hardest we’ve had here on WOGE. Very few people got it right, and many who did took a long time to find it. So, I just want everyone to know, ACG picked this one, not me!

The answer is, historic downtown Savannah, Georgia. Here is ACG’s rational for picking it “My wife and I visited Savannah, GA about 2 years ago, and were very impressed with the architecture. The small, treed, green squares seen in the image are small parks, around which the fancy houses were built (according to our tour guide). “

If it is a hard one (like this) remember to put a brief description on how you figured it out. It is interesting to know how other people solved it.
