Contest #204 answer: Timberline Lodge, Mt. Hood, Oregon

Timberline Lodge acted as scenery for no less than seven movies, of which The Shining is of course the most famous.

It is situated at the south side of Mount Hood in Oregon, at an elevation of 1817 m (5960 ft).

Only some exterior shots were used in the movie The Shining, as most of the filming was done in the Elstree Studios in the U.K.

  1. I am embarrassed to tell you that this is within 2 hours’ driving time from my home, and I completely missed it.

  2. I Googled ‘Overlook Hotel’ for this one, but didn’t find proof easily enough. Should have invested some more time…
