At the mouth of the River Rance, near Saint-Malo in France lies the ‘Barrage de la Rance‘, the first tidal power station in the world.
Driven by the force of the tidal flow the 24 turbines of this contraption can generate as much as 600 GWh annually, all generated by the tidal difference which is an average 8 metres (26 ft).
