Built in 1929 as a tourist attraction by the municipality of  Cañon City Colorado, the Royal Gorge Bridge stands almost as high it is long.  It has been dubbed as the highest suspension bridge in the world.  The bridge spans 1250 feet across the Gorge, and 1053 feet above the Arkansas River.  The river is very popular for it’s white water rafting.  The Gorge is also home to the Royal Gorge Route Railroad which runs through the bottom of the Gorge and gives visitors a fun historic rail experience.
