Contest #216 answer: Ruínas de Conímbriga, Condeixa-a-Velha, Portugal

Hmm, it was not easy this week.
This is one of the largest and best preserved Roman settlements in Portugal: Conímbriga.
According to archaeologic research it was inhabited between the 9th century BC and 8th century AD and had a population of about 10,000.

This is the only facility in the USA where nuclear weapons are assembled and disassembled., the Pantex site, some 25 km NE of Amarillo, TX.

It was in the news a few weeks ago, when the last B53 bomb (the most powerful weapon of the U.S. after the B41) was dismantled here.

Contest #214 answer: Glines Canyon Dam, Clallam County, Washington, USA

The Glines Canyon Dam (aka Upper Elwha Dam) was built in 1927 and recently removed to restore the ecological systems in the area, which is considered the largest dam removal project in the history of the USA.

An animation of the removal process can be found here and on the National Geographic site there is a time lapse movie of the actual removing process.

For those who did not get the hint: Sir Barnes Neville Wallis was the inventor of the bouncing bomb, which was used during WWII in the attack of the German Ruhr Valley Dams.
