Contest #214 answer: Glines Canyon Dam, Clallam County, Washington, USA

The Glines Canyon Dam (aka Upper Elwha Dam) was built in 1927 and recently removed to restore the ecological systems in the area, which is considered the largest dam removal project in the history of the USA.

An animation of the removal process can be found here and on the National Geographic site there is a time lapse movie of the actual removing process.

For those who did not get the hint: Sir Barnes Neville Wallis was the inventor of the bouncing bomb, which was used during WWII in the attack of the German Ruhr Valley Dams.
