  1. San-Bernardino Strait, Philippinos
    N12.546840, E124.181706

Site of the key engagment of the Battle of Leyte gulf (Oct. 1944), the “battle off Samar” — although the battle was fought mostly East of Samar Island, i.e. maybe 200 km to the South-East ! Yet the IJN sailed and withdrew through the Strait, and the failure of the USN to guard it properly was pivotal in the events (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_off_Samar).

Regarding the hint : a search for “Admiral Ziggy” on google yields the following first hit:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clifton_Sprague
“Sprague’s greatest achievement came on October 25, 1944 when his Task Unit 77.4.3 (…) fought off the vastly superior Japanese Center Force at the Battle off Samar”

  2. San Bernadino Strait, connecting the Samar Sea with the Phillipine Sea. 12° 35′ 15″ N, 124° 11′ 48″ E
