Contest #331 answer: Termini Imerese, Sicily, Italy

Termini Imerese is a small town at the Northern coast of Sicily.
In the ancient Roman times it was destroyed by the Carthaginian army under Hannibal, but rebuilt under the name of Thermae.

The former Amphitheatre was evntually built over with houses, but its shape is still recognisable in Google Earth.

Noticed the horseshoe-shaped buildings in the centre of the picture?
Well, they are on an ancient spot which was not meant to build on but could host 4000 spectators

Contest #330 answer: Doel, Belgium

The village of Doel is lying in the harbour area of the Belgian city of Antwerp and dates from 1267.
In the 1960s is was decided that Doel should be demolished because of the expansion of the harbour and the construction of a nuclear power station nearby.
However today there are still some 160 inhabitants (out of the original 1300) which won’t move
