Contest #205 answer: LOTR Hobbiton movie set, Matamata, New Zealand

In the books of Tolkien, the village of Hobbiton lies in Westfarthing, the western part of the Shire, the Hobbit region of Middle-Earth.

In real life, when filming the Lord of the Rings trilogy, director Peter Jackson choose the region 10 km SW of Matamata in New Zealand (in the Waikato region) as the location for Hobbiton, were Bilbo Baggins lived in his his ‘Bag End’ house.
