This is the evaporation pond south of the Dead Sea, operated by Dead Sea Works, Inc.:

If the Google Earth Community notes are to be trusted, it’s also home to Sodom and Gomorrah!
These are salt/mineral evaporation pans which are either part of, or immediately to the south of the Dead Sea, in the Jordan Rift Valley. I think this area used to actually be part of the dead sea, until it started drying up from to much water being diverted further north.
