Despite the name of this suburb, things look pretty hopeless in this valley.

You know, you have to be a SERIOUS surf fanatic to risk snakes, piranaha, and a little parasitic fish called the candiru (google that only if you want nightmares). But, the tidal bore that forms here generates a 20km/h wave that many surfers love to ride.

At least once a day, this place is a real bore.

Tucked away in a niche in the western most portion of Vatican City is this, the official heliport used by the Pope. Pope Benedict XVI has a pilot’s license, and actually flew the papal helicopter from the Vatican to the summer residence in Castel Gondolfo, but, since he didn’t hold a driver’s license, would need to be transported to and from the helipads by his drivers.

The previous guy used to use this himself, but he needed someone to drop him off here and pick him up on the other side.

The Burning Man festival is held each year from the last Monday in August until the first Monday in September. Started in 1986 in San Francisco, it moved to Black Rock Desert in 1990.

The culmination of the festival is the “burn”, held on Saturday night, of a large statue of a man (hence the name of the festival) made out of flammable materials.
