Contest #265 answer: Plain of Jars, Xieng Khouang, Laos

This is a rather mysterious site. It is the Plain of Jars in Laos, where thousands of megalithic jars are scattered along the plains.

The jars are hewn out of rock and have diameters between 1 and 3 meters.

Laos is considering to apply for an Unesco World Heritage Site status for this landscape.

Hmm, I think I got the wrong balance this week in my hint. Obviously it was a bit too cryptic.

Contest #264 answer: McDonalds DC3, Taupo, New Zealand

The DC3 with serial number 42-100460, was commissioned to the USAF in 1943 as a trooper plane.
In 1947 is was purchased by an Australian company and it went on flying until 1984

In 1989 it found its place in Taupo and a year later McDonalds took over the plane and established the MacDonalds restaurant in it.

Apparently the plane had been sold again and removed from this location.

Contest #264

There is an object in this picture that obviously doesn’t belong there. (click the picture to enlarge)

This week’s key question (to earn your points) is not only where is this location, but what is inside this object?

Contest #263 answer: Al-Madina souq, Aleppo, Syria

Well, what can I say. It is total mayhem out there.

Of course it is to regret that another UNESCO World Heritage Site is demolished -as stated by UNESCO Director General Irina Bobkova– but for the people living there, the situation must be unbearable.

The Souq Al-Madina is/was the the largest covered ancient market in the world, with around 13 kilometres of alleyways.
