Contest #282 answer: Lake Chebarkul, Oblast, Russia.

When we were all waiting for the close flyby of asteroid 2012 DA14, an unexpected event happened in Russia.
A 10.000 tons chunk of unearth material entered the atmosphere above russia, causing some spectacular fireworks and a huge shockwave, which caused injuries to some 1500 people.

Luckily for us, most Russian cars are equipped with dash cams, so there is a lot of footage of this event to be seen on YouTube.

Pieces of this asteroid reached the ground making it into a meteorite, a large one struck a hole of 6 m diameter in the frozen lake Chebarkul.
