Bern in The Netherlands is a small hamlet. It has no less than 5 streets and 37 inhabitants.

It was founded in 1134 by knight Fulco of Bern.

It is not Zürich and no, it doesn’t look like a capital, does it?

Zurich in The Netherlands has nothing to do whatsoever with Zürich, Switzerland.
The name probably comes from the Frisian ‘Zuderinghe’ which means ‘Southern corner’

Despite this fact there are a lot of Swiss tourist from Zürich visiting this place, because of the similarity in the name.

The town is named after the lake in the picture: Lake Zurich and was founded in 1896.

The Lake is a bit older, it dates from 1830 and was originally called ‘Cedar Lake’
