Contest #829 – Qatar Cool, Pearl Qatar, Doha, Qatar

How do you provide air conditioning for a 400,000 square meter space with over 40,000 people plus hotels, shopping centers, theaters and even indoor amusement parks from a central location? You build the largest district cooling plant in the world. This is an 130,000 ton unit with 52 chillers.

By centralizing this service and avoiding unneccessary duplicate infrastrucutre associated with each building having it’s own AC unit, the Kingdom is seeing a significant savings of CO2 emissions and overall costs.
