Contest #6 Answer

Contest #6 was won by the former Wisconsin State Debate Champion, the Honorable Doctor Benjamin Bayer PhD. The answer is the Dutch/Belgian enclaves/exclaves of Baarle-Hertog and Baarle-Nassau.

Seriously, guys. I thought this one would be much more difficult. I really need to think of something a bit harder.

Contest #5 Answer

Contest #5 was won by Stephen Hope. I should have known better than to post something so unique and so…… New Zealand. The correct answer is Mount Egmont/Taranaki. The circle is because the park surrounding the mountain is defined by the radius from the peak. The dark green is forest and the light green are are farms surrounding the mountain.

Contest #4 Answer

Kevin Lew is spoiling things for everyone. He is 2 for 2 now in correctly guessing that the answer to Contest #4 is the Green Sand Beach on the Big Island of Hawaii.

The green in the green sand is the mineral olivine, which can be found in the volcanic rocks in Hawaii. The beach is very difficult to get to as there are no roads, no signs, and you have to climb down to get to the beach. It is the only one of its kind in the world.

I thought this one would take longer to solve. The gauntlet has been thrown….

Contest #3 Answer

Kevin Lew wasted no time in answering Contest #3. It was Andros Island in the Bahamas. The massive chunk of turquoise visible from almost any distance was a dead give away. The color of the sea and the sand are all due to massive deposits of calcium carbonate which can precipitate out of the warm Caribbean water. Contest #2 Answer

Stephen Hope is the winner of contest #2, with a very big assist coming from Wayne of Long Beach, CA. The location is Ha Long Bay in Vietnam. Ha Long bay is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and it renown for its small, limestone islands.
