Contest #711: Aldeadávila Dam, on the Spain-Portugal border

Aldeadávila Dam is a concrete arch-gravity dam on the Duero River (also known as the Douro River) in Spain, on the border with Portugal.

The dam is one of the very high dams built across Europe after World War 2 and is 140 metres tall.

This contest came to us as part of the collection of images for contest #700 from Phil Ower. It was used for parts of the film Doctor Zhivago.

Contest #707: the Hall for Cornwall in Truro, Great Britain

This week’s “Royal” contest was the site of the first Queen concert in Truro.

The City Hall in the city of Truro hosted Queen, although the band booked was named Smile. In subsequent years, the location was turned into the Hall for Cornwall.
