This location marks the site of the former Estadio Pocitos, one of the venues used during the 1930 FIFA World Cup, the first FIFA World Cup in history.
On 13 July 1930, during the match between France and Mexico, Lucien Laurent scored the first goal ever in a FIFA World Cup. Although the stadium no longer exists, a memorial known as the “Portería del Primer Gol Mundial” (“Goal of the First World Cup Goal”) stands near this intersection, marking the approximate location of the goal where football history was made.
