Contest #937: the Ross Island ferry on the way to Norway House, Manitoba, Canada

This week we visited the Ross Island ferry, on Highway 373 between Jenpeg and Norway House in northern Manitoba, Canada. The cable ferry crosses one branch of the Nelson River on the river’s way from Lake Winnipeg to Hudson Bay.

Work is underway to eventually replace the ferry with a bridge but for now the ferry runs 24 hours a day between mid-April and the end of December. An ice road operates for the remainder of the year.
