This week’s submission was from LRey.
The INSEE tower was located in the town of Malakoff, just across the boulevard périphérique (ring road) from Paris. Built in 1974, the building housed the headquarters of the French national statistics institute (INSEE) between 1975 and 2018.
The tower was a thirteen-storey, forty-eight-metre high, with a tripod-shaped structure covering an area of 32,000 m2. A few years ago, the French government decided to demolish the tower… to build in its place a brand new building of almost the same height and surface area! A project already well advanced (the tower has now been completely razed to the ground) and described by many opponents as an “ecological and financial aberration”.
