So, it seemed appropriate to start this celebration of the site with it’s illustrious founder, Gary.
Back on February 12, 2008, Gary opened this website with Contest #1, Ground Zero (I guess his flickr account is gone now, so the images didn’t stick)
Anyway, Gary submitted Hearthstone Historic House Museum in his hometown of Appleton, Wisconsin. He started to offer the Vulcan Street Plant, but Karel had already used it on contest #158, so we settled on the first private residence to be electified (using Edison’s DC system) by that plant, the Hearthstone House, built in 1882 and now a museum with the original Edison bulbs.
