Metéora (‘Suspended in the air’ in Greek) is a complex of several Eastern Orthodox monasteries built in the 15th century on top of sandstone rock pillars.
They are on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1988.
In the early days access was very difficult and only possible by the use of ropes and lashed together ladders,
