This week we were in Gary’s home town, Appleton,Wisconsin, where in 1882 the world first hydroelectric power plant was constructed in the Fox River, the Vulcan Street Plant.

The Grande Dixence Dam in Switserland is the tallest gravity dam in the world.

It holds back the Lac des Dix, with 400 million m³ the largest reservoir in Europe. The power stations supply about 20% of the Swiss energy needs.
