Contest #94 Answer: Tonlé Sap, Cambodia

Tonlé Sap is the Great Lake of Cambodia, designated as a UNESCO biosphere in 1997.  This unique river-lake is home of many Cambodians who live in floating villages, and in once such village, Gary provided the entire school with notebooks and pencils.

**Gary’s Note** Tonle Sap is really amazing. It is literally the pulsing heart of Cambodia.  Every year it rises and falls with the flooding of the Mekong River. It can rise over 12m a year. On the lake there are floating villages which move with the river. I actually visited Tonle Sap twice during my stay in Cambodia. Once I visited some of the villages and the second time I traveled from Sieam Reap to Phonm Penh.
